Marian University Earns Tier 2 Collegiate Purple Star of Indiana Designation
Marian University has been recognized by the Indiana Commission for Higher Education and the Indiana Department of Veterans Affairs as a Tier 2 Collegiate Purple Star of Indiana institution for its commitment to serving military-affiliated students and their families.
The designation recognizes Indiana colleges and universities that excel at supporting veterans, active-duty service members, reservists, National Guard members, and military-connected students. Institutions are evaluated against 37 standards across eight areas, including admissions and enrollment, financial support, student services, institutional support systems, and career and community engagement.
Marian University earned the Tier 2 designation, reflecting an 80 percent achievement level and placing it among 11 Indiana postsecondary institutions recognized in the 2025-26 cycle.
“Marian University is deeply committed to ensuring our military-affiliated students have the support, resources, and sense of community they need to succeed from enrollment through graduation and beyond," said Tony Gearlds, a Marine Corps veteran and Director of Military Affairs at Marian University.
The Collegiate Purple Star of Indiana designation, established by Senate Enrolled Act 384-2023, highlights institutions that have established intentional systems and services to support military-connected students throughout their academic journeys.
Indiana Governor Mike Braun praised the institutions receiving the designation, noting their "unwavering commitment to serving our military-affiliated students, who have given so much to America."
The Collegiate Purple Star designation is valid for three years, and institutions may reapply in future cycles to pursue a higher-tier designation.
