For the first time in program history, Marian University baseball is celebrating a national honor, as freshman standout River Pecina has been named NAIA National Player of the Week. Pecina’s recognition comes after another strong showing, earning his second Crossroads League Player of the Week honor this season.
Pecina had a week to remember at the plate, going 11-for-17 with five home runs and eight extra-base hits while helping Marian to a 4-1 record. He drove in 16 runs, scored 10 times, and recorded multiple hits in four games, continuing to lead the team with 13 home runs on the season.
Now 26-9 overall and 19-5 in Crossroads League play, the Knights head into a key stretch of the season. Marian travels to face IU Southeast baseball on Wednesday before returning home for an alumni weekend series against Bethel University baseball. Meanwhile, head coach Todd Miller recently picked up his 50th win, adding to an already exciting season for the program.
