Day for the Knights brings the Marian community together through giving and service

Day for the KnightsMarian University’s annual Day for the Knights brought students, faculty, and staff together for a day rooted in generosity, on campus and across the Indianapolis community.

The university-wide initiative fuels scholarships, academic programs, and campus priorities, while putting Marian’s commitment to service into action. Throughout the day, students prepared meals for individuals in need and carried that work beyond campus.

For sophomore Brogan Wilson, a San Damiano Scholar, the experience reflects the heart of the day.

“I feel like today what we're doing is we're honoring our university, and we're showing that here, the students at Marian University truly care,” Wilson said.

Wilson, whose scholarship is supported through donor generosity, said the day highlights both the impact of giving and the responsibility to give back.

“I think it represents school pride. I think it represents community. You get to see the support we have for each other.”

Across campus, the energy carried into a range of activities. Students and employees filled bingo tables, faced off in a euchre tournament, and squared off in a student-versus-faculty basketball game, moments that built connection alongside the day’s philanthropic focus.

Amanda Scanameo, University Minister for Service and Catholic Social Teaching, said the day reflects Marian’s Franciscan mission in action.

“Day for the Knights is a time where we get together as a community and raise support for Marian and for the work that we do,” she said.

That combination of fundraising and service, she added, speaks directly to the university’s values.

“Living out our Franciscan values through service work, and honoring our founders, the Sisters of St. Francis of Oldenburg.”

Day for the Knights shows Marian University at its best, people giving and serving in ways that extend far beyond a single day.

This year, the Marian community raised 333,000 dollars, supporting students, strengthening academic programs, and extending the university’s impact both on campus and beyond.

That combination of funding and service speaks to the university’s values.
