This week’s Shining Star, Hugo Vasquez, is a Vocal Music Education major with a minor in Spanish Studies who truly embodies Marian University’s mission.

Deeply involved on campus, Hugo serves as Chapter President of the National Alliance on Mental Illness on Campus, Vice President of Recruitment and Community, and General Manager of College Mentors for Kids. His leadership also includes serving as a Best Buddies and Kappa Delta Pi Student Government Association Representative, co-founding the Everywhen Comedy Club, and performing with Marian’s Chamber Singers and the University Choir.
Beyond student organizations, Hugo supports the Marian community through multiple student worker roles, including Resident Assistant, Library Student Worker, Spectrum of Knights Mentor, and Peer Tutor, after previously serving as an Orientation Leader, K–12 Pathways Ambassador, and summer camp counselor.
Hugo credits his motivation to love people and a belief in the power of presence, showing up with positivity, kindness, and care. Through leadership, service, and joy, this Shining Star continues to make Marian’s campus a brighter and more welcoming place.
“I’m motivated by my love for people and the power of presence, showing up with positivity, kindness, and care.”
