Marian University’s partner school Cold Spring School has been named the 2025 Excellence in STEM Award recipient by the Indiana Department of Education, a prestigious recognition presented at the Educational Excellence Awards Gala on Friday, November 28, 2025. Out of all schools nominated statewide, Cold Spring was one of only 10 schools to receive an Excellence Award—and the only STEM-designated school honored this year.
Cold Spring School serves as a Marian University Lab School and is part of the Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS) Innovation Network, which includes Marian University as a collaborative partner. Marian University proudly celebrates this achievement alongside the entire Cold Spring community.
The award recognizes schools that have expanded access to high-quality STEM learning for all students, demonstrating innovation, equity, and a commitment to preparing young learners for success in an increasingly technology-driven world. For Cold Spring, the honor reflects the collective effort of its students, families, teachers, administrators, and community partners.
“This award affirms what we already know,” school leaders shared. “Cold Spring is home to some of the most dedicated educators and most curious, capable students in Indiana. We are truly one of the best STEM schools in the state,” added Cold Spring CEO Cody Stipes, who is also a 2013 Marian graduate and a current doctorate student.
Along with the recognition, Cold Spring received a $25,000 grant to further enhance its STEM programming—funding that will support hands-on learning opportunities, technology upgrades, and expanded inquiry-based learning experiences. The school’s crystal award is now proudly displayed in the front office as a reminder of what collaboration, passion, and perseverance can achieve.
Photos from the gala capture the excitement of the evening and the pride felt by the entire Cold Spring community. With this award, Cold Spring School continues to set a statewide standard for excellence in STEM education.
