Veterans Day Service Unites Marian Community in Gratitude and Reflection

Marian University honored Veterans Day with a heartfelt ceremony held Friday, November 7, at the Franciscan Heritage Fountain. The event began with flags from each branch of the U.S. Armed Forces displayed around the fountain, creating a powerful setting for reflection and gratitude.

Faculty, staff, and students gathered as participants offered prayers, remarks, and songs in tribute to America’s veterans. The flags served as a meaningful backdrop for the speakers and singers, with each moment captured by the university photographer.

“This event is about unity, appreciation, and remembering the sacrifices that allow us to gather freely,” said Tony Geralds, Marian’s new Director of Military Affairs, who organized the ceremony. “Our hope is that every student who attended left with a deeper sense of gratitude for those who serve and have served our nation.”

Following the 20-minute ceremony, guests enjoyed boneless chicken wings, Rice Krispie Treats, coffee, and hot chocolate. A special table invited attendees to write personal “Thank you” cards for the Marines and Sailors of VMM-162, currently deployed in the Middle East. These messages, along with Marian University shirts and other care items, will be sent overseas as tokens of appreciation from the campus community.

The occasion reflected Marian’s ongoing commitment to faith, service, and gratitude toward those who have served our nation.
