After nearly 18 years, the Marian University women’s soccer team closed out its non-conference season with a perfect 8–0 record, building momentum and excitement as they prepare for the challenges of conference play.
While the milestone is significant, head coach Justin Sullivan offered perspective: “There has been a lot of success in our program’s past, so being undefeated is not out of the realm of possibilities.” He credited the team’s preparation against tough non-conference opponents, which kept the Knights sharp and ready for what lies ahead.
That road won’t get any easier. The Crossroads League boasts several ranked programs, including two that are also undefeated heading into conference play. “We are only as good as our preparation for our next match,” Sullivan said. With a target now on their backs, the Knights will need to stay disciplined and committed to sustain their early-season success.
Much of Marian’s strength this year comes from its depth, balance, and team chemistry. One example is sophomore defender Erin “EK” Kelly, who has logged a team-leading 644 minutes this season. As a freshman, Kelly started 21 of 23 matches and anchored a defense that delivered 16 shutouts. Her consistency and presence on the field reflect the overall quality that runs deep throughout the program.
With confidence, focus, and a new generation of talent leading the way, the Knights are turning their perfect non-conference sweep into fuel for a powerful run through conference play.
