Dr. Abner Chen, Ph.D., P.E., FASCE, chair of the Department of Civil & Computer Engineering and Engineering Physics in Marian University’s E.S. Witchger School of Engineering, has been named a Fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), an honor bestowed upon fewer than 3% of the organization’s 150,000 members worldwide.
The ASCE Fellow distinction recognizes members who have made celebrated contributions and demonstrated exceptional leadership and service to the engineering profession.
Dr. Chen was formally recognized at the 2025 ASCE OPAL Gala, where he joined an elite group of engineers whose work has shaped the future of civil engineering.
“I am deeply honored to receive this distinction from the American Society of Civil Engineers,” Dr. Chen said. “It was truly inspiring to celebrate alongside so many remarkable engineers and leaders who have made transformative contributions to our field. Now, I am more committed than ever to advancing knowledge in civil engineering and engineering education and mentoring the next generation of engineers.”
