Marian University announced a significant new partnership with Vincennes University to advance the Riverside Education Innovation District (REID) and expand access to career and technical education for students in Indianapolis’ Near Northwest Area community.
As part of Marian University’s bold plan to repurpose the historic former Larue Carter campus into a hub for lifelong learning, Vincennes University will establish a new Career and Technical Education (CTE) center on the property. The center will provide more than 10 high-demand programs for local high school students—including automotive technology, welding, advanced manufacturing, cybersecurity, and law enforcement—preparing them for both college and today’s job market.
Daniel J. Elsener, President of Marian University, welcomed the collaboration:
“The Riverside Education Innovation District exists to remove barriers to education from cradle through career. When we shared our vision with President Johnson, Vincennes immediately stepped forward to help make it a reality. Vincennes’ career and technical education programs will create opportunity and upward mobility for students and families in the area.”
Vincennes University will occupy two dedicated buildings at the Cold Spring Road property, with programs expected to launch in fall 2027. The initiative aligns with new Indiana high school diploma requirements and will provide hundreds of Indianapolis students with dual credit, hands-on training, and pathways to well-paying careers. Plans also include dual-credit partnerships in the trades, apprenticeship programs with area employers, and adult education opportunities.
Dr. Chuck Johnson, President of Vincennes University, emphasized the importance of the partnership:
“Vincennes University is honored to partner with Marian University, local schools, workforce organizations, and industry leaders to be part of a bold and transformative initiative. Working alongside President Elsener and Marian University, we can help build a stronger future for the Near Northwest Area and the entire region.”
This collaboration reflects Marian University’s commitment to creating upward mobility and educational opportunity from cradle through career. With Vincennes University as a partner, the Riverside Education Innovation District will help transform literacy, workforce readiness, and lifetime educational attainment in one of Indianapolis’ most economically disadvantaged areas.
