Marian University’s Dr. Erica Ausel Recognized Nationally for Excellence in Anatomy Education and Research

Erica AuselMarian University announces that Erica Ausel, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Anatomy, has been selected as a recipient of a national teaching award, recognizing her outstanding contributions to health science education and research.

Dr. Ausel received the 2025 Anatomage Research Pioneer Award, a distinction given to educators who advance academic scholarship through innovative teaching and published research in the anatomical sciences. She was one of only four educators honored nationwide across all disciplines.

“I’m honored to be recognized for work that bridges teaching and research in ways that directly benefit students,” said Dr. Ausel. “At Marian, I’ve had the opportunity to explore new methods to help students think critically, visualize complex systems, and connect what they’re learning to future clinical practice.”

The award committee recognized Dr. Ausel for integrating 3D visualization technology into anatomy education and for authoring multiple peer-reviewed studies focused on effective learning strategies in the health sciences. Her work has contributed to best practices in areas such as spatial reasoning, retention, and engagement, especially for students preparing for careers in medicine and healthcare.

A member of Marian University’s faculty since 2019, Dr. Ausel teaches at the Tom and Julie Wood College of Osteopathic Medicine and has led collaborative research initiatives that focus on improving student outcomes in anatomy and clinical sciences. Her efforts reflect Marian’s broader mission to prepare future physicians and healthcare leaders through rigorous academics, experiential learning, and a strong ethical foundation.

Dr. Ausel and the other national award recipients will be recognized at a 2025 academic conference bringing together leaders in medical and science education.
