Hannah Melton has been named as the Autism Coordinator at the OneAmerica Personalized Learning Center at Marian University. The Personalized Learning Center offers support and assistance for all Marian University students with disabilities, providing individualized coaching and guidance throughout their college careers.
Melton will oversee the Personalized Learning Center’s Autism Program, named the Spectrum of Knights, which launches in fall 2022 and will be available to any Marian University student. The program provides individualized support and programming for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and connects them to on-campus and community resources. In addition to one-on-one student guidance and coaching, the program provides workshops to assist with enhancing life skills and professional skills. Melton will also train and oversee volunteer student peer mentors who will provide social engagement opportunities to students enrolled in the program through weekly casual activities.
“The OneAmerica Personalized Learning Center supports students with a variety of disabilities. A distinctive quality of the center is the increased support and services for students with autism. Marian is proud to be the first university in the state to offer an autism program for four-year undergraduate students,” said Jennifer Plumlee, assistant vice president for student success and engagement. “Hannah brings experience working with ASD students and will greatly contribute to our mission of graduating transformational leaders.”
Melton has spent the last five years working in the higher education field, most recently as an academic success coach for Orbis Education. Her passion for supporting college students with Autism Spectrum Disorder began when she was pursuing her master’s degree. She has previously worked at Texas A&M University with the Spectrum Living Learning Community and the Aggie Achieve Program, both of which provide direct support and resources to students with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Melton has a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology and public relations/advertising from the University of Southern Indiana and a Master of Science in Educational Administration from Texas A&M University. She is a member of the College Autism Network and the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators, among other professional associations. She resides in Indianapolis.
