INDIANAPOLIS — Marsha Casey will serve as the interim senior vice president for health professions at Marian University (marian.edu) in Indianapolis. Casey will officially assume her new role March 16, 2020.

Marian announced late last year that Donald Sefcik, DO, is stepping away from his role as vice president for health professions and dean of the Marian University College of Osteopathic Medicine. Following a series of meetings with internal and external stakeholders in the healthcare professions, Marian University administrators announced that Dr. Sefcik’s role would be split into two separate positions – senior vice president for health professions and dean of the Marian University College of Osteopathic Medicine (MU-COM). The search for a new dean for MU-COM is ongoing.

As senior vice president for health professions, Casey will have responsibility for developing and executing a strategic plan for expanding the reach of Marian’s health profession programs, increasing enrollment and sustaining the strengthening of academic quality in health professions programs at the undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral levels. She will identify key partners in the healthcare community, and expand partnerships that will foster growth of Marian’s health professions programs. She will expand research opportunities in partnership with the grants office and other schools and colleges of Marian University. In consultation with the president, provost, and health professions administrators, Casey will be the leader in envisioning and launching new programs on campus, at new sites, and for hybrid delivery. She will also design and implement a plan for expanding interprofessional education and collaboration within the health professions.

Casey will report to Alan J. Silva, Ph.D., executive vice president and provost. Her direct reports will include Dorothy Gomez, Ph.D., RN-CNE, dean of the Leighton School of Nursing, as well as the dean of the MU-COM.

“Expanding partnerships with our healthcare partners is critically important to Marian University and the healthcare community,” Marian University President Daniel J. Elsener said. “Not only will those partnerships allow Marian to grow our healthcare programs, it benefits our healthcare partners by improving their ability to deliver high quality healthcare now and in the future. In Marsha Casey, we have found the ideal person to identify key partners and foster those relationships for the benefit of everyone involved.”

“We are excited that Marsha Casey, with her strong record of leadership in not-for-profit hospitals and healthcare systems, is joining Marian University,” Silva said. “She brings a wealth of knowledge in working with healthcare professionals and numerous strategies in advancing the mission of healthcare organizations.”

Casey comes to Marian University from M3 Consulting, where she has served as president since 2018. Prior to that, Casey served in executive roles with a number of healthcare organizations including Westchester Health, Valhalla, NY; Trinity Health, Novi, Mich.; St. Vincent Hospitals and Health Services, Indianapolis; Vanderbilt University Hospital, Nashville, Tenn.; St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital, Houston, Texas; Mother Francis Hospital, Tyler, Texas; and Methodist Hospital, Houston, Texas.

Casey earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from Ball State University, and a Master of Arts in Allied Health (MA) from University of Texas at Tyler. She was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Science (Sc.D.) from Ball State University.

“I am honored to join Marian University, a distinguished Catholic university with talented and dedicated faculty and staff committed to a shared mission,” Casey said. “Marian’s vision of preparing transformative leaders for service to the world matches what I have aspired to as a nurse and a professional in healthcare systems during my career. I look forward to being part of the team contributing to the ongoing development of our future healthcare leaders.”
