About Counseling and Consultation Services

Marian University’s Counseling and Consultation Services is committed to promoting and supporting students’ holistic well-being and educational success through direct clinical services; psychoeducational, outreach and prevention programs, and training for graduate students in the mental health professions. Our mission is to provide high-quality services for students from all backgrounds. From individual counseling to online resources, the Counseling Center is here for you.

MU CCS provides a range of therapeutic interventions in working with students. These interventions are delivered in a brief therapy model that focuses on helping students make the desired change or reach a specific goal.  When a student’s needs require a different type of care than we can provide, we will partner with the student to transition their care to resources in the community.  We are committed to making the best match between the needs of students and appropriate services.  Some common examples of when a transition of care might be required include:

  • A need or request to be seen more than once a week for therapy
  • A need, or request, for uninterrupted care across semesters or academic years
  • A need for a more intensive level of care or specialized care
  • Requests for letters of support for emotional support animals or housing exceptions
  • Psychological testing for accommodations through the Personalized Learning Center

Confidentiality

MU CCS records are confidential and separate from other university educational records.  The privacy of communication between clients and mental health professionals is protected by Indiana state law. Under state law, the CCS staff is prohibited in disclosing any information related to your treatment, without your permission, with few exceptions, including imminent danger to self or others, reports of child/elder/disabled abuse, or court order.

Limits to Confidentiality

All information gathered in counseling, including the fact that a student has come to CCS, is held in strict confidence.  No information about students or their treatment is disclosed to others unless the student provides a written request or it is within the exceptions noted above to confidentiality stated in Indiana state law.
