by Julia Kelb | Nov 17, 2017

Anastacia KirbyAnastacia Kirby ’17 was a member of the two-time national championship winning women’s basketball team, and now she’s joined a new squad—the Office of Institutional Advancement. Kirby serves as the assistant director of annual giving, starting her new role in September.

So far, Kirby’s main focus has been leading efforts for Marian University’s inaugural Giving Tuesday participation. Giving Tuesday is on November 28 and is a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration. Kirby explained that Marian University’s day is centered around the 80th anniversary of the school’s founding and raising money for student scholarships.

Q&A with Anastacia Kirby

Q: What’s been your favorite part of working here so far?

A: Seeing the other side of things. Being in advancement is different. As a student, you know that people donate to give scholarships, but I’ve been able to actually meet the people who donate and provide scholarships. It’s eye opening and a different perspective that I like.

Q: Is there a memory as a student that sticks out to you?

A: I’d probably say winning the national championships with the women’s basketball team. Oh, and doing the commencement speech for graduation. Those are my favorite memories.

Q: Thanksgiving is just around the corner. What are you thankful for this year?

A: I am thankful for being new in the workforce, no longer being a student, and having the opportunity to work here.
