On Saturday, November 1, Marian University welcomed 24 teams and 14 universities to campus for the 16th Annual Central States Regional Ethics Bowl.
The teams argued and defended their moral assessments of complex ethical issues facing society today. Questions address a wide array of topics in business and professional ethics, in personal relationships, and in social and political affairs.
The day’s competition saw Indiana University take home first place, Taylor University came in second, Millikin University took third, and University of Arkansas rounded out the top teams with a fourth place finish. These four teams will move on to the national collegiate ethics bowl in February 2015.
Marian University has hosted this event since 1999.
“Hosting ethics bowl is a way for Marian University to couple our commitment to academic excellence with the university’s focus on values-laden education. Students learn to reason morally about real-world situations, think critically on their feet, and work together in a group in a friendly competitive environment,” said Karen Spear, Ph.D., organizer of the event and director of the Center for Organization Ethics at Marian University.
