Marian University announced today that Mark Miles, chief executive officer of Hulman & Company, and Chuck Pagano, head coach of the Indianapolis Colts, are the 2014 Clayton Family Circle of Honor inductees. These two people have made vital contributions to athletics in the Indianapolis community. In 2008, Miles led a successful effort to earn Indianapolis the right to host Super Bowl XLVI, and last year took the helm at a company whose holdings include the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the iconic venue that helped put the city on the map. Pagano, whose public battle with leukemia inspired the “Chuckstrong” battle cry during his inaugural season as head coach of the Indianapolis Colts, has guided the local NFL franchise to back-to-back playoff appearances in his first two seasons.
The university also announced that the Indianapolis Motor Speedway will serve as the venue for the event, which is being combined for the first time with the M-Club Wall of Fame Induction Dinner. Festivities are scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 22 with a reception, followed by dinner. The university is planning exciting activities for guests which, it says, can only be executed at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Details about the evening’s activities will be revealed in the coming weeks.
The Clayton Family Circle of Honor was created in part to honor, but also to inspire. Joe Clayton and his wife, Jan, agreed to lend their names to these awards because they believe in the character-building qualities associated with athletics in a university community. At Marian University, the faith tradition and values are active in many ways, including athletics. On the field and courts of competition, student-athletes learn respect, fair play, and teamwork. These values carry over into all areas of their lives: relationships, careers, parenthood, and community service.
Proceeds from this event will add to the general athletic scholarship fund, help enhance athletic facilities, and contribute to the championship fund.
