Marian University Will Host National History Day in Indiana State Contest

April 16 is National History Day in Indiana; 350 students from 37 schools across Indiana will compete for state honors.
Marian University will host theNational History Day in Indiana state contest on April 16, 2011, in the P.E. Center on campus. National History Day in Indiana is a project-based learning program that encourages students to explore their own interests in history, conduct research and create projects in the form of exhibits, documentaries, original dramatic performances, papers and web sites. Approximately 350 students in grades 4-12 will compete for state honors. State finalists in the junior and senior divisions (first and second place) are eligible to compete in the Kenneth E. Behring National History Contest on June 12-16, 2011, at the University of Maryland. Three Indiana teachers will receive awards that same day. Linda Crady of Sycamore School will receive the Patricia Behring Teacher of the Year (junior level) award; Deb Wrye of Salem High School will receive the Patricia Behring Teacher of the Year (senior level) award; and David Wheeler of Fall Creek Academy was one of 15 teachers nationwide selected to attend Albert Small Teacher/Student Institute: Normandy: Sacrifice for Freedom. Marian University professors Dr. Ray Haberski and Dr. Mary Ellen Lennon and a student history majors will serve as judges. The competition begins at 9 a.m. and concludes with the awards ceremony at 3 p.m.
