On Sunday, September 16, at 2 p.m., as part of the university’s 75th Anniversary, Peter J. Casarella, director of Center for the World Catholicism and Intercultural Theology and professor of Catholic studies at DePaul University in Chicago, will give a lecture entitled “Beauty and Justice: From the Medieval Franciscans to Latino Catholicism Today.” The lecture will be presented in the Mother Theresa Hackelmeier Memorial Library Auditorium. Casarella received his Ph.D. in religious studies from Yale University after completing a dissertation on the theology of the word of the fifteenth century Catholic thinker Nicholas of Cusa. He spent two years as an assistant professor of theology at the University of Dallas before assuming a similar position at The Catholic University of America. In 2008, he was named the founding director of DePaul University’s Center for World Catholicism and Intercultural Theology. As director, he organizes a series of colloquia and conferences at DePaul University on the discourse of catholicity as a theological program and as a starting point for the interdisciplinary research. The Office of Mission Effectiveness, the School of Liberal Arts, and the Department of Theology and Philosophy will host the lecture.
