On Friday, October 26, seven Marian University nursing students attended the first-ever Inter-Professional Education Simulation event at the Fairbanks Simulation Center at the Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis.   The event included nursing students from Butler University, Indiana University, Marian University, and Purdue University.   Marian University nursing students: Aaron Blackburn, Apryll Brown, Hannah Holmes, Tanesha McWilliams, Ashley Pierce, Ashley Ponsler, and Ashley Pertile, had the opportunity to collaborate with a group of their peers and members of the interdisciplinary health care team to demonstrate their skills and knowledge in caring for a variety of patients.        “Teamwork and collaboration with multidisciplinary providers is imperative in the health care field. We must use effective communication to facilitate better patient outcomes in moments of crisis,” Hannah Holmes, Marian University senior nursing major, said. The simulations strengthened the skills that they have been taught through Marian University’s School of Nursing. Throughout the day, the students ran simulations of various “crisis” events that they could encounter in their nursing careers. “Overall, I feel that Marian University has done an excellent job of preparing me for a changing and dynamic health care system. The Marian University nurses shined at the simulation and I was proud to walk out of the facility that day, wearing my Marian University uniform,” Holmes said.
