With students, staff, and faculty on board to assist—the 22nd annual M-Club Golf Outing was another huge success. A record 152 golfers teed off on Tuesday, July 29 at the Golf Club of Indiana to raise money for Marian University student-athlete scholarships. Special thanks to our title sponsor this year, Pepsi, and Browning Construction who stepped up to be our presenting sponsor.
Sr. Norma was back this year by popular demand working the “buy a birdie” game at Hole #3. Golfers could donate $20 to get an automatic 2 on the hole. Other games were offered at holes to raise money and help out golfers’ games. Incoming freshman golfer, Alexa West, worked the “play like a pro” hole and hit an extra shot to the teams who donated extra for the opportunity. One group really benefited from West’s talent as she knocked in a hole-in-one on the 135-yard par three!
“That shot was the buzz of the day,” said M-Club President Dave Jongleux. “We are very excited to have her join Knight athletics this season.”
After a fun day of golf, the event wrapped up with a dinner and auction; items included two tickets to Marian University Rising to the Challenge, Creating Leaders Gala on October 17 together with a one-night stay in the JW Marriott, a week-long vacation in South Carolina, Pacers tickets, Colts tickets, and golf packages. The auction included many items donated to us by Mike Clayton along with an autographed Pacers basketball signed by former Pacer-great, Darnell Hillman (“Dr. Dunk”), who we were honored to have golf with us for the day.
Wil Hampton, executive director for athletic marketing, events, and sponsorship commented, “Thank you to everyone who participated, donated, volunteered, and supported this year’s golf outing. We had great weather and everyone seemed to enjoy an outstanding day at GCI.”
Special thanks also to Zink Distributing and Post Pub for donating beverages for the event.
A tentative date of July 28, 2015 is on the books for the 23rd annual M-ClubGolf Outing. See you next year!
