The artwork of Marian University alumni will be on display in the Marian Hall Art Gallery from October 16-31. A reception will be held Thursday, October 16 from 4:00-6:00 p.m.
The exhibit features art from Marian University alumni Nick Schanz, Lindsey Lenz (formerly Lehner), Mary Ittenbach, Linda Ittenback, Jessica Corbin, Jasmine Ryan-Hamilton, and Jenny Ambroise (formerly Pauckner), all of whom were art majors and now work in a variety of settings.
Alumna Jessica Corbin, who works for Kittle's Furniture as an interior designer, stated, “Marian has helped me to not just think about my little world but also to think about how everything that I do and create, no matter how small, affects others. I hear ‘Responsible Stewardship’ in the back of my head often.”
St. Matthew Catholic School art teacher Lindsey Lenz '02 describes the role art plays in her life, “I love how the arts bring people together. Art is what makes me feel alive. It can be challenging, rewarding, and inspirational.”
Other alumni fondly recall memories of their time at Marian University. Graphic designer Linda Ittenbach '95 reminisces, “My favorite time at Marian was Friday afternoons. In 1993, Marian only had 2 Apple computers, and they were housed in the writing center. There were limited open lab hours outside of class, and because of my work schedule, I was unable to make use of them. Professor Shumate graciously allowed me access to the machine(s) on Friday afternoons. During that time, I would play (run wild) with Photoshop for hours. It was wonderful! This creative freedom truly jump started my passion for digital design.”
Mary Ittenbach '55 remembers the seating at lunch tables, which was divided but friendly: “art students at one table and chemistry/biology students at another, because of the smell of our clothes (turpentine and linseed oil from art lab and who knows what rotten egg smell from science lab).”
The Marian University Art Gallery is located in Marian Hall on the west end of the 2nd floor. Gallery hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and by appointment. Contact gallery director Jenny Ambroise with any questions at firstname.lastname@example.org.
