Notre Dame Professor Will Deliver Lecture at Marian University

John Haldane, Ph.D.The Marian University Center for Organizational Ethics and the university’s Semler Endowed Chair for Medical Ethics announced today that University of Notre Dame professor John Haldane will deliver a lecture entitled “Ethics, Philosophy and Public Policy: Past Practice and Future Challenge” at the campus on Friday, February 7. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Professor Haldane is the 2013-2014 Mary Ann Remick Senior Research Fellow at the Notre Dame Center for Ethics and Culture. He is a professor of philosophy and director of the Centre for Ethics, Philosophy and Public Affairs at the University of St. Andrews. He has held fellowships at the Universities of Oxford, Cambridge, Aberdeen, Edinburgh, and Pittsburgh. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh, Chairman of the Royal Institute of Philosophy, Consultor to the Pontifical Council for Culture, and a member of the Pontifical Academy of Thomas Aquinas. His research areas include history of philosophy; philosophy of mind; social and political philosophy, ethics, and aesthetics. Professor Haldane’s books include Atheism and Theism, An Intelligent Person’s Guide to Religion; Faithful Reason: Essays Catholic and Philosophical; Reasonable Faith; and Seeking Meaning and Making Sense.

The lecture will be held in the Mother Theresa Hackelmeier Memorial Library Auditorium on Friday, February 7, at 5:00 p.m. Refreshments will be served.
