Meet the Faculty: Sarah Jenkins, Ph.D., Master of Science in Counseling Director

by Julia Kelb | May 05, 2016

Sarah JenkinsSarah Jenkins, Ph.D., is the director of Marian University’s new Master of Science in Counseling Program which begins this fall.  Jenkins has always had her heart set on working in academia, but she wanted to find a program that had a focus on teaching and leadership and not just research. When the opportunity to lead Marian University’s new counseling program presented itself, Jenkins felt it was the right fit.

The two-year program is designed to meet professional standards of the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs, Indiana Licensed Mental Health Counselor licensure eligibility, and Indiana State Board of Education Initial Practitioner License. Graduate students have the choice to pursue one of two tracks, school counseling or clinical mental health counseling.

Outside of work, Jenkins takes ballroom dancing lessons with her husband, enjoys spending time with her three daughters, and is a very active member of her church.

Q & A with Sarah Jenkins, Ph.D.

Q: What are you most looking forward to with the program starting this fall?

A: On a professional level, I am excited about starting a new chapter. Not only is the program a benefit to the university, but also a benefit to the community. On a personal level, I am excited to grow relationships with new colleagues and students.

Q: Have you always lived in the Indianapolis area?

A: I was born and raised in Little Rock, Arkansas until I was about 10 years old. I moved to Lafayette, Indiana until I was leaving for college. I then moved back to Arkansas. I have now been back in Indiana for 11 years.

Q: If you could be on any television show, which one would it be?

A: I would want to be on Fixer Upper. I would want to buy a huge, old but well-made house and have Chip and Joanna Gaines fix it up for me.
