Alumni Hall Brings Excitement, Community to Campus

by Amber Ferrari and Katie Bradley | Oct 02, 2014

In one short month, Alumni Hall has worked its way into the hearts, minds, and routines of students, faculty, and staff. Whether you are looking to study quietly at Starbucks, or hang out and eat pizza with friends at the Papa John’s, the new student center has a place for you.

“Alumni Hall creates a great common space. It’s a bigger hangout area and a new environment to study in,” said Austin Curtis, a first-year medical student in the Marian University College of Osteopathic Medicine. “It’s nice that I can come here to study, but also be able to get up and walk around, visit Starbucks, and not feel like you have to be hush-hush.”

Construction on the 19,000-square-foot student center began with a groundbreaking ceremony in September 2013. By July of this year, the Marian University Bookstore moved to the new building. The much-anticipated Starbuck Café opened in August, with the new eating options and swanky study areas quickly following.

“I love all of the windows; the openness and good lighting is very inviting. Alumni Hall really updates our campus,” said Amy Czerwonka ’16.

Features of the building include:

  • Open concept design, including a curtain wall of windows that look out onto the center of campus
  • New eating options, including Papa John’s Pizza and Grilleworks
  • Full Starbucks Café along the west end of the building
  • New location for the campus bookstore
  • Large “living room” providing a variety of seating options and small group discussion areas and can be converted to a banquet hall that holds more than 300 people
  • Front, side, and back terrace areas providing outdoor seating and gathering area

On October 18, as a part of the
Homecoming festivities, a ribbon-cutting ceremony will honor the many alumni who made this new space possible. All are welcome to be a part of this special moment connecting and celebrating our past and our present.
