Marian University Students Injured in Off-Campus Fire

by Mark Apple | May 16, 2014

An explosion and fire at an apartment complex south of campus resulted in six people, four of whom were Marian University students, being transported to the hospital the evening of May 15. Two of the students were examined and released with no injuries, while the other two were admitted to the Eskenazi Hospital burn unit.

The students injuries are serious, but not life-threatening and they are expected to make a full recovery. Contrary to media reports, the apartment complex is independently owned and managed and not affiliated with Marian University. But due to its proximity to campus, several Marian University students reside there.

A cause for the explosion has yet to be determined. Representatives from Indianapolis Fire Department , Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, and the local utilities are leading the investigation.
