How Do I Get Started?

Two Semesters Prior to Beginning Your Internship

  1. Meet with your faculty internship advisor to discuss requirements and pre-requisites for doing an internship.
  2. Register with Internship office. Speak to the staff member to become aware of the internship resources (workshops, websites, self-assessments).
  3. Register on-line with KnightWork
  4. Attend Internship workshop on networking, interviewing, resume writing, etc.
  5. Write your resume. Review it with Internship office staff and faculty advisor.
  6. Attend job fairs to find out about internship opportunities.
  7. Begin networking with friends, faculty, alumni and others to explore options.

One Semester Prior to Beginning Your Internship

  1. Begin sending your resume and cover letter to posted internship opportunities.
  2. Continue networking with contacts, attending job fairs, checking websites.
  3. Polish interviewing skills. Schedule a mock interview with internship staff or career services staff.
  4. Interview with employers.
  5. Send thank you note to interviewer IMMEDIATELY.
  6. Once you have been offered an internship meet with your Faculty Internship Advisor to develop your Learning Contract.

Good preparation will increase your opportunity to acquire a meaningful learning experience as an intern.
