Two Semesters Prior to Beginning Your Internship
- Meet with your faculty internship advisor to discuss requirements and pre-requisites for doing an internship.
- Register with the office of internships and career services. Speak to a staff member to become aware of the internship resources (workshops, web sites, self-assessments).
- Register online with Knight Work.
- Attend Internship workshop on networking, interviewing, resume writing, etc.
- Write your resume. Review it with the office of internships and career services staff.
- Attend job fairs to find out about internship opportunities.
- Begin networking with friends, faculty, alumni, and others to explore options.
One Semester Prior to Beginning Your Internship
- Begin sending your resume and cover letter to posted internship opportunities.
- Continue networking with contacts, attending job fairs, checking web sites, etc.
- Polish interviewing skills. Schedule a mock interview with the office of internships and career services staff.
- Interview with employers.
- Send thank you note to interviewer immediately following the interview.
- Once you have been offered an internship meet with your faculty advisor to develop your
learning contract.
Good preparation will increase your opportunity to acquire a meaningful learning experience as an intern.
