Two Marian University students, Alex Battiato and Courtney Smallwood, had the opportunity to intern at the Indianapolis Mayor’s Office during the fall 2010 semester. 

Alex, a communications and art major is learning what a communications career is like in the real world of work. He is experiencing the stress and challenges of representing Mayor Ballard to the public through speech writing, writing press releases, and attending press conferences. Alex says the greatest challenge was working with the new communication avenues of social media. He researched ways to update the mayor’s web site and track the use of Twitter and Facebook.

As a sophomore, Alex is hoping to snag at least two more internships before graduating. What an awesome start for Alex’s career search.
