21st Century Scholars has not only made going to college possible, but it has made it fun! It's nice to have a place on campus that I can go to and talk about challenges with adjusting to college life, finances, or difficulties balancing my busy schedule. The Office of 21st Century Scholars at Marian University has made my college experience less stressful. I love getting off campus for a little while with the frequent events and the mentoring program helps me stay involved with others in the program.
Marrissa, class of 2015
Currently a junior studying vocal music education at Marian University, Marrissa is proud to call herself a Knight! Originally from Kokomo, Indiana, Marissa always dreamed of attending Marian University and was ecstatic when she was accepted her senior year of high school. She was drawn to Marian University because of the vivacious campus community.
Marrissa discovered it was easy to make friends and get involved on campus. For the past three years, Marrissa has cheered on the Knights and was recently appointed co-captain for the cheerleading squad. She also performs with the show choir, chamber singers, and sacred choir.
While she keeps a busy schedule, Marrissa balances her academic and social responsibilities. She credits part of her success to being a 21st Century Scholar. The 21st Century Scholar program at Marian University has allowed Marrissa to experience events that she believes will help her not only as a student, but also as an educator. One of Marrissa’s favorite events was attending the Broadway show “Legally Blonde” at Beef and Boards Dinner Theatre.
This year, Marrissa will serve as a mentor to new 21st Century Scholars. Her decision to mentor a new student stems from her desire to help make a difference in the lives of others.
