  • Alternative Break Update: Nicaragua #4
    March 14, 2014

Today was nothing short of awesome. We started off the day a little earlier than usual (6 AM!) with breakfast and chores. We wanted to get to San Marcos as soon as we could in order to work along side the community. Once we were at San Marcos, we immediately jumped in with the community and continued our work from yesterday. Just after lunch, we were able to lay down 200 yards of pipe in the trenches! . . .

Today was a long day of hard work but it was filled to the brim with blessings. It was a big day of firsts. One Monday a month, all the Amigos staff comes to work in a community with the trip participants and today was that day. Not only was that special, but we were the first group to work on the water system in the village of San Marcos.

It was a Spanish mass and we celebrated with many people from the community.

The phrase is a call and a challenge regarding the liturgy, specifically the mass, but, also, the entire prayer life of body of Christ. But what does that participation look like, and what does it have to do with Lent which is both celebrated on Sundays, but also is a prayer that envelops every moment of the forty days from Ash Wednesday to Easter Sunday?

  • Faith 101: Ash Wednesday
    March 4, 2014

From ashes on our foreheads to the cleansing waters of the Baptismal font we travel this journey of repentance as sinners needing, waiting for the salvation offered to us at Easter. We must first put on our ashes except our mortality and remember we are dust and to dust we will return...
