CEDARVILLE, Ohio - The Marian College women's tennis team won its third consecutive match on Friday afternoon as the Knights defeated Cedarville University, 5-4, in Cedarville, Ohio.
Senior Michele Sizemore (New Albany, Indiana/New Albany) and freshman Alyson O'Conner (Lebanon, Indiana/Lebanon) each increased their school record for singles wins to 17 to lead the Knights.
Sizemore won in straight sets at No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-0, to improve to 17-5, while O'Conner won at No. 4 singles, 6-2, 6-2 to improve to 17-2.
The players were not as successful at No. 1 doubles as together they fell, 4-8.
Sophomore Dana Reynolds (Lebanon, Indiana/Lebanon) picked up another victory at No. 1 singles, 1-6, 7-6, 6-4, and teamed with sophomore Alyssa Richard (Madison, Indiana/Shawe Memorial) for an 8-5 win at No. 3 doubles.
Richard was not as successful at No. 5 singles, however, as she fell in straight sets, 4-6, 2-6.
Freshman Maria Berry (Madison, Indiana/Shawe Memorial) fell at No. 2 singles, 7-5, 4-6, 0-6, but teamed with freshman Samantha Jo Crump (Indianapolis/Scecina) for an 8-5 win at No. 2 doubles.
Crump also fell at No. 6 singles in straight sets, 2-6, 6-7.
The Knights improved to 12-8 on the season and continue the weekend at Ohio Dominican University in Columbus, Ohio, on Saturday.
