FORT WAYNE, Indiana - The Marian College women's golf team finished the final round of the University of Saint Francis Cougar Invitational in a tie for first place. However, the Knights fell in a playoff and picked up the runner-up honor.
The Knights shot a two-day total of 670 (343-327) en route to the second place finish. USF finished with a 670 but earned the win in a playoff.
Junior Angela Gauck (Greensburg, Indiana/North Decatur) picked up the individual title by carding a 152 (77-75). She outpaced Madonna's Jacqueline McCormick (155) for the title.
Junior Kristen Welker (Kokomo, Indiana/Western) earned a fifth-place finish after she carded a 166 (87-79). Sophomore Alyssa Simpson (Crawfordsville, Indiana/North Putnam) carded a 175 (91-84) to finish in 12th place.
Sophomore Lauren Nickoson (Cleves, Ohio/Taylor) earned a tie for 18th place with a score of 181 (88-93) while sophomore Cassie Freestone (Brownsburg, Indiana/Brownsburg) finished in 21st with a 186 (97-89).
As individuals, junior Karli Shepherd (Carmel, Indiana/Carmel) shot a 173 (83-90) to finish in a tie for ninth place. Junior Ashley Reed (North Vernon, Indiana/Jennings County) finished tied for 13th place after she shot a 176 (90-86), and junior Krista Moore (Camby, Indiana/Decatur Central) shot a 193 (99-94).
The Knights head to the Kentucky Wesleyan College Lady Panther Fall Classic on Thursday and Friday at The Summit Golf Course in Owensboro, Kentucky.
