Knights finish fifth at McKendree - 4/13/2009

 
LEBANON, Illinois - While rain washed out the first round of the McKendree Spring Invitational, the Marian College women's golf team persevered and picked up a fifth-place finish as the event was shortened to 18 holes.
 
Junior Angela Gauck (Greensburg, Indiana/North Decatur) earned a runner-up finish after she carded a two-over par 74. She finished five strokes back after carding a two-over 38 on the front nine and an even-par 36 on the back.
 
Sophomore Lauren Nickoson (Cleves, Ohio/Taylor HS) picked up a tie for 24th place after she carded an 87 (44-43), while junior Ashley Reed (North Vernon, Indiana/Jennings County) earned a tie for 30th with an 89 (46-43).
 
Sophomore Alyssa Simpson (Crawfordsville, Indiana/North Putnam) carded a 91 (43-48) for a 38th-place finish, and junior Kristen Welker (Kokomo, Indiana/Western) finished in 42nd place after carding a 92 (48-44).
 
Sophomore Cassie Freestone (Brownsburg, Indiana/Brownsburg) picked up a 45th-place finish after she carded a 93 (47-46). Juniors Krista Moore (Camby, Indiana/Decatur Central) and Karli Shepherd (Carmel, Indiana/Carmel) carded a 97 and 98, respectively. Each player was competing as an individual.
 
The Knights get back on the course at the Battle at the Brickyard on Saturday and Sunday. The event, hosted by the University of Saint Francis (IN), will begin at approximately 1 p.m., on Saturday at the Brickyard Crossing Golf Course.
