MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - The Marian College volleyball team finished an outstanding weekend as it went 3-1 at the Papa John's Invitational on the campus of Mt. Vernon Nazarene University. The Knights are now 17-10 on the season.
The Knights defeated St. Catharine's College (KY) in straight sets, 25-8, 25-23, 25-13, and knocked off Judson University (IL) in straight sets, 25-18, 25-16, 25-19, on the first day.
On the second day, the Knights defeated Lindsey Wilson College for the second time this season, 28-26, 25-23, 20-25, 25-20, before falling to host MVNU, 20-25, 25-23, 10-25, 17-25.
Sophomore Carrie Sherman (Indianapolis/Perry Meridian) led the Knights with 36 kills in the four matches and a .405 attack percentage. She also had a team-high 14 blocks in defense.
Freshman Brittany Miller (Indianapolis/Warren Central) had 35 kills in the four matches and added 42 digs and 13 blocks in defense.
Senior Bethany Dulle (Bloomington, Illinois/Mt. Pulaski) earned All-Tournament honors after she tallied 33 kills, a team-high 43 digs and six blocks.
Juniors Rachel Klene (Indianapolis/Roncalli) and Katy Smith (Clayton, Indiana/Cascade) had 16 and 20 kills, respectively. Smith had 40 digs while junior Lyndy Errett (Martinsville, Indiana/Martinsville) had 36 digs.
Freshman Mollie Heidenreich (Indianapolis/Perry Meridian) also earned All-Tournament honors after an outstanding weekend. She had 126 assists, 32 digs, and five blocks to lead the Knights.
The Knights come back to the Physical Education Center when Indiana Wesleyan comes to town on Wednesday night. The match is scheduled for 7 p.m.
