Four players pick up All-Region honors - 6/10/2009

 
INDIANAPOLIS - The 2009 MCC Tournament champion Marian College softball team had four of its players named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Region second team.
 
Senior Heather Pieper (Greenwood, Indiana/Greenwood), junior Sandy Corum (North Vernon, Indiana/Jennings County), sophomore Mallory Ortwein (Anderson, Indiana/Anderson), and freshman Kelsey Uebelhor (St. Anthony, Indiana/Forest Park) were all named NFCA All-Region second team.
 
Pieper went 19-4 in the circle with a 1.22 earned run average, 124 strikeouts, and just 10 walks. She had 19 complete games and logged 149 innings pitched. Pieper was named All-Conference for her outstanding season.
 
Corum went 14-1 on the campaign with a 1.45 earned run average, 130 strikeouts, and 24 walks. She had 10 complete games and logged 106 innings pitched. Corum was named All-Conference and was the runner-up for MCC Pitcher of the Year.
 
Ortwein also had an outstanding season as she led the team with a .394 batting average, a team-high 12 home runs, and a team-high 41 runs batted in. She was also named All-Conference and was the runner-up for MCC Player of the Year.
 
Uebelhor had one of the top rookie campaigns on record as she batte .364 with 39 hits, a team-high four triples, and 17 RBI. Her most prolific numbers came in MCC play as she batted .488 with a team-high 20 hits, and a team-high two triples. She was also named All-Conference.
 
The Knights finished the 2009 campaign as the MCC Tournament champions and had the second-best season on recor after they finished 37-9 including a 12-0 mark at home.
