INDIANAPOLIS - The Marian College softball team traveled to Florida last week and came home with a 7-3 record to open the 2009 campaign.
To cap the week, senior Heather Pieper (Greenwood, Indiana/Greenwood) was named Mid-Central College Conference Pitcher of the Week and senior Samantha Hypes (Plainfield, Indiana/Plainfield) was named MCC Player of the Week.
Pieper had an outstanding week down in Florida as she went 4-1 to open the season with a 0.90 earned run average. She threw three complete games, pitched 31 innings, struck out 33, and walked just three in her six appearances. The honor is the first for Pieper and the first since last season when Kristi Roth was awarded the honor.

The Knights head to Indiana Wesleyan University on Tuesday for a doubleheader in Marion, Indiana. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m.
