HUNTINGTON, Indiana - The Marian College baseball team fell in the back-end of its four-game series with Huntington University, 10-1 and 6-4, on Saturday afternoon.
The Knights fell to 15-17 overall and 4-6 in Mid-Central College Conference play.
The Knights could get little going in game one as they fell 10-1. They were held to one run on three hits in game one and allowed five unearned runs en route to their third straight defeat.
However, game two looked to be a little different as the Knights came out with bats ready. After going 1-2-3 in each of the first three innings, the second time through the order proved effective.
Senior Chad Morris (Whitestown, Indiana/Vermont) led off the fourth with a double, but was thrown out at the plate on a double by sophomore Todd Ungru (Madison, Indiana/Shawe Memorial). However, a single by freshman Jared Mills (Cicero, Indiana/Hamilton Heights) brought Ungru plateward for the game's first run and a 1-0 lead.
Huntington answered with an unearned run to tie the score, 1-1, after four innings.
The Knights posted another pair of runs in the fifth on an RBI-single by Morris and scored the second as Ungru was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Junior Pat Midla (Brownsburg, Indiana/Bethesda Christian) was staked a 3-1 lead.
Huntington responded in the fifth with four runs of its own to take a 5-3 lead. The Knights did nothing in the sixth and the Foresters added another in the bottom half to make it 6-3.
The Knights scored one more in the top of the seventh on an RBI by Mills to cut it to 6-4, but it was not to be for the Knights.
The Knights were scheduled for a nine-inning game on Sunday against Spalding University, but it was cancelled due to impending rain.
Marian College is scheduled to get back on the field at home against Goshen College on Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 p.m.
