Knights suffer sweep at IWU - 3/24/2009

MARION, Indiana - The Marian College baseball team had its six-game winning streak snapped on Tuesday night as they fell in their Mid-Central College Conference season-opening twinbill, 2-0 and 5-0, at Indiana Wesleyan.

The Knights are now 11-13 on the season and 0-2 in MCC play.

Pitching was the story of game one as both teams finished with one-hitters. However, walks and errors at key moments cost the Knights two unearned runs and, eventually, the game.

Sophomore Jake Mullis (Coatesville, Indiana/North Putnam) threw five strong innings, struck out six, and walked five. Sophomore Aaron Wilder (Decatur, Indiana/Bellmont) threw one inning of hitless ball and struck out one.

Freshman James Storms (Camby, Indiana/Plainfield) had the lone hit for the Knights.

While the Knights had nine hits in game two, they could not get a run across the plate in a 5-0 defeat.

Senior Chad Morris (Whitestown, Indiana/Vermont), freshman Evan Schludecker (Indianapolis/Roncalli), junior Patrick Midla (Brownsburg, Indiana/Bethesda Christian), and freshman Jon Wade (Avon, Indiana/Avon) each had two hits for the Knights.

The Knights head to Winona Lake, Indiana, to battle Grace College on Thursday. The twinbill is slated for 1 p.m.
