Junior named NAIA Scholar-Athlete - 5/27/2009

INDIANAPOLIS - Marian College junior pitcher Patrick Midla (Brownsburg, Indiana/Bethesda Christian) was named an NAIA Scholar-Athlete on Wednesday.

Midla is the first baseball player since 2004 to earn the national honor when Jason Back earned the same honor for the second straight year.

Midla went 4-3 on the hill for the Knights this season and logged the second-most innings for a Marian College pitcher (54.1). He also finished the campaign with the third-most strikeouts (37).

He also batted .265 with nine RBI in 34 appearances at the plate.

The honor is bestowed on those student-athletes who have achieved junior standing and have maintained a 3.500 grade-point-average or higher.
