James is from the Shelbyville, Indiana area. He graduated from Morristown High School and went on to attend Marian College (now Marian University). His undergraduate degree is in sociology. He went on to receive a master's degree in health administration. Prior to arriving in the Office of Admission, he was a graduate research assistant and a nursing home administrator.

What is your favorite place on campus?
The Nina Mason Pulliam EcoLab, of course! (I love nature)

What do you like best about Indianapolis?
Indy has a lot of "big city" features, yet it's not overcrowded. The people are courteous, too!

Who would you rather have for a roommate- a zombie, a vampire, a gremlin, or bigfoot?
I'm a night person, so I would probably get along best with a vampire. Gremlins just freak me out.

Where would you most like to visit?
Japan. My brother lives there!

What is a favorite memory of your time at Marian University?
One time as a student, a few friends and I found a turtle by the Japanese Tea Garden. We quickly named the turtle Petey (still not sure whether it was male) and set out on an adventure to release him into the EcoLab. I'm pretty sure this shenanigan is on video somewhere.

What advice would you offer to incoming freshmen?
If at all possible, stay overnight or for the weekend at any college you're serious about attending. Our office can set this up for you!

What is one question that every student should ask during the college search?
Ask the college representative, "Can you arrange an overnight visit for me?" (see previous response); Ask yourself, "What's the best choice for ME?"
