Barbara has 33 years of experience working as a Registered Nurse. Nursing experience includes in patient – medical/surgical care, intensive/cardiac care, cardiac rehabilitation, and outpatient - prenatal care, school nurse, short-term missionary nurse in Haiti & Honduras prior to becoming Assistant Professor at Marian University School of Nursing. Preceding work included Hancock Regional Hospital; Shelby County Prenatal Clinic, Shelby Eastern Schools, Major Hospital, and Wishard Hospital. Additionally, Ms. Blackford serves as the secretary of the Edna Martin Christian Center (EMCC) Board of Directors and a member of the EMCC Programs Committee, serves as Co-Clerk on the Christian Education Committee and Caring Team at First Friends Indianapolis, and volunteers with Gennesaret Free Clinics. Spring 2013 served as a member of the Rotary Vocational Team presenting curriculum and assessment strategies to nursing faculty in Tanzania, Africa. Ms. Blackford has a BSN and MSN in Nursing and Certified as a Nurse Educator (CNE).
