Placement Testing

Math placement testing needs are determined by a student’s individual SAT and/or ACT scores.

  • Students are required to take the math placement testing if they score below 500 on the SAT math score or below 19 on the ACT math score.
  • Students who are not required to complete math placement testing will be placed into a math course based on their major and individual math score on the SAT/ACT.

English placement testing needs are determined by a student’s individual SAT and/or ACT scores.

  • Students are required to take English placement testing if they score below 530 on the SAT reading score or below 19 on the ACT reading score.
  • Students who are not required to complete English placement testing will start in ENG 101: English Composition.

Foreign language placement testing is determined by the language taken in the student’s high school.

  • Students who have taken Spanish, German, or French will be required to complete foreign language placement testing at Marian University. However, if the grades on the high school transcript are low, testing may not be required.
