"Fighting Malaria in Africa and Haiti"Second Annual Alumni Global Studies Lecture: Dr. Joseph Keating ’93.
Dr. Joseph Keating ’93 is an assistant professor in the Department of International Health and Development at the Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine. His research and teaching interests focus on malaria monitoring and evaluation, and disease ecology in tropical and sub-tropical areas. His current research focuses on Anopheles mosquitoes and malaria in urban environments of sub-Saharan Africa; the evaluation of a child survival project in Nigeria; the evaluation of an indoor residual spraying campaign in Eritrea; malaria control in Haiti; sentinel surveillance in Ethiopia; and insecticide-treated net use in Zambia. Keating completed a postdoctoral fellowship in the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health at the University of Miami and holds a Ph.D. in international health and development from Tulane University, a master’s degree in international development studies from Ohio University, and a bachelor’s degree in biology from Marian College (now Marian University). He served in the Peace Corps in Gambia from 1995-97.
