The online portion of your education is a very unique interactive experience. This is not an effort you make alone, as independent or self-study. The online classes are similar to traditional classes, where you will work with a group of students guided by a faculty professor. There are assignments, tests, projects, and discussions. However, with these classes being online, you enjoy "anytime, anywhere" convenience within a given time frame. There is personalized attention at every step, with advisement and virtual faculty office hours.

You will learn:

  • Critical core knowledge related to health assessment, pharmacology, and clinical interventions and procedures

  • Health promotion, risk reduction, and disease prevention

  • Community and global healthcare issues

  • Illness and disease management

  • Information and healthcare technology

  • Healthcare ethics

  • Cultural diversity

  • Healthcare systems, policy, and law

  • Interdisciplinary care

  • Research and evidence-based practice

  • Health education and advocacy

Getting Clinical: Your On-Site Classroom

At the same time you are taking your online classes, you will also be begin your clinical work. This hands-on education takes place at St. Vincent Health facilities, where you will begin your work with other students and faculty. The clinical work begins in a clinical nursing lab where you can learn and practice with faculty supervision and feedback. Working with patients and families, and in some cases, one-on-one with a nurse, you then develop your competencies.

Your clinical experience will cover:

  • Adult health

  • Obstetrics

  • Pediatrics

  • Behavioral health

  • Acute care

  • Intensive care

  • Long-term care

  • You will also gain community health experience that might include home care, hospice care, wellness and health promotion, prevention, occupational health, and clinics.
