Governance

The Teacher Education Committee functions as the governing body for the Teacher Education Program. This committee has the leadership role in approving changes in the program and monitoring it. Policy concerns may originate with either student groups, advisory councils, and/or the faculty itself. Upon review by the faculty group, proposals and ideas are then sent to the Teacher Education Committee for review.

The committee is composed of five appointed members of the School of Education, the Dean of the School of Education, and five elected members of the liberal arts faculty. Education faculty are appointed by the Dean of the School of Education to represent the various areas of education.

Students who seek appeal or a petition for an exception to a policy must submit a request to the committee. The committee will discuss the appeal or the petition and direct in one of three ways: it will be approved, rejected, or delayed for additional information or clarification. If the committee approves or disapproves, the petition will be signed by the Chair of the Teacher Education Committee and the Dean of the School of Education. If the committee needs additional input, then a decision will be delayed until the information is gathered.

A student has the right to appeal the decision of the Teacher Education Committee to the Faculty Academic Policies Committee.
