Required Testing for Indiana licensing
Specialized middle school tests will be required for teacher candidates adding Middle School to the Elementary license. See “PRAXIS Information” in the School of Education web site.
Requirements for Successful Completion of the Licensing Program
- Successful completion of performance assessments in first licensing area(s) through Phases 1, 2, and 3
- Minimum of “C” in required courses in the content area and licensing programs
- 2.5 Minimum GPA
- Successful completion of middle school work sample portfolio the semester before student teaching as part of Phase 3
Courses required for content area:
Students must meet the content area standards. The school will work with each department to determine whether a work sample portfolio or a standardized test is best for determining proficient knowledge in the content area. Students in the elementary program will need to work with Dr. Grissom and their advisor to ensure content standards are met in an additional subject area.
Courses required to teach middle school:
Fourteen additional hours are added for elementary students, including student teaching. Students in the primary intermediate program should count on one additional semester to complete requirements for middle school licensing.
