Phase III Assessment: Qualifying for the Provisional License
The following abilities are judged during the senior seminar and student teaching:
- Designs and implements instruction independently
- Makes and defends qualitative judgments about childrenís learning
- Collaborates effectively with peers and colleagues
- Aligns processes of planning, instructing, and assessing students
- Provides solutions for teaching problems
- Communicates effectively with students, parents and community
Candidates who successfully complete the Phase III assessment are considered program completers and eligible for a recommendation for licensing in Indiana.

Teacher candidates will successfully complete an inquiry project in their major. For Elementary majors, this project is conducted in the student teaching site. For secondary licensing students, this project is conducted within their major department.

Testing requirements for Phase III: Teacher candidates who wish to complete the program for primary and/or intermediate teaching must meet the PRAXIS II Indiana test score minimums in their content area. Candidates must take their content area tests by the semester prior to student teaching. Candidates in the elementary program must pass the “Elementary Education: Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment” and “Reading Specialist” tests. Candidates in the secondary licensing program must pass PRAXIS II tests in all areas of licensing (majors and minors). Minimum scores required are posted on the bulletin board outside of Marian Hall 004 and are available on this web site under Resources: Standards.

Teacher candidates will complete a student teaching portfolio that captures their perspective of the teaching-learning process.
