Hopefully, by now, you know that Marian’s Adult Programs has shaken up the textbook policy for Fall 2016 and beyond. No more required electronic textbooks. You spoke and we listened. We’ll provide the ISBN number for your course and you place the order. Why is this better for you as a student?

You have the power. No more mandatory books means that you can choose exactly which type of book you want to use. In most cases, you can select a new or used physical book. Buy it, rent it, share it, or even borrow it from a friend. Are you an e-book fan? Choose that option.

It can be cheaper. By being a bargain shopper and taking just a few minutes on your computer, you can save money. Just type the ISBN number in to your search engine and let it do the work for you. A huge list will appear and you get to make the final call. Don’t get sticker shock. Brand new shiny textbooks can be expensive. Go a different route. Look into used books and rental options. Look for student deals too. Did you know that Amazon.com, offers discounted rates for students with an .edu address? Well, they do, and all MAP students have one!

Keep your books or sell them when your class is completed. We often hear that students want to keep books as a point of reference, especially when it comes to the nursing prerequisite courses. Electronic books may not last forever, but a physical text can. Buy a book, build a library, and customize your knowledge base if that’s important to you. Not so excited about keeping your music appreciation text? Sell it or give it to a friend who needs that same book.

Buying from the Marian University bookstore has its advantages. Our MU bookstore is awesome and we know they will give you top notch service. Also, any MAP student who purchases a book through the bookstore can charge the book to their account and make one payment when you pay your tuition. Financial aid students can even use their aid to pay for books purchased through the bookstore. How cool is that?

Now that you understand your options, what type of textbook makes the most sense for you? New, used, rented, or electronic download?
